Meet the NGWA Team
North Georgia Weather Authority was created in December of 2010 by Austin Chaney, a graduate of the University of Georgia and current meteorologist at WHIO-TV. Every day for nearly a decade, Austin posted daily forecasts and covered severe weather as it happened. In 2019, as Austin began his broadcast career, Atmospheric Science students at UGA began doing the exact same thing: providing daily weather forecasts and life saving severe weather coverage. Today, in addition to being a resource of reliable weather forecasts, the North Georgia Weather Authority also provides a place for students to sharpen their forecasting skills, and practice communicating detailed weather information to the general public. The look of the graphics may change, the faces you see forecasting may change, but the goal remains the same: Keep you ahead of the storm.
