Student Meteorologist Abby Hallberg
Abby Hallberg is a Senior at the University of Georgia pursuing a B.S. in Atmospheric Sciences. Her hometown is Dacula, GA, where she graduated from Mill Creek High School. Her freshman year of college was spent at Wingate University, where she had been recruited to play lacrosse. After considering her academic interests more thoroughly, she decided to transfer to UGA to pursue atmospheric sciences.
Her early childhood was spent in Kansas, where her interest in meteorology was piqued by the tornadoes her family occasionally encountered. Her parents often found her outside during storms trying to watch the action, even as young as age 6.
Her first year at UGA, she decided to enroll in a weather forecasting seminar where she was introduced to broadcast meteorology through the AthensGaWeather videos. With the help of more experienced meteorologists such as Lance Blocker, and later Molly McCollum, she decided that a career in broadcast meteorology is what she wants to pursue.
When she is not studying or in the studio, Abby loves to cook, work out, and spend time with friends and family. She is also a member of the Women’s Club Lacrosse team at UGA and enjoys travelling to different states with her team in search of the best competition.
